Boiled Cake Recipe

“This is really a surprise to everyone once they heard the name, yet it does live up with its name as truly boiled your appetite to the highest satisfaction!”

INGREDIENTS

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 cups white sugar
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
2 cups raisins
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups chopped walnuts
DIRECTIONS

* Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
* Lightly grease and flour one 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
* Combine water, sugar, shortening, salt, cocoa, raisins, and spices in a saucepan.
* Bring to a boil, and continue to boil for 3 minutes; remove from heat.
* Stir in vanilla and nuts.
* Combine flour and baking soda.
* Stir into boiled mixture, and thoroughly mix.
* Pour into prepared pan, and spread evenly.
* Bake for 50 minutes, or until a tester inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
* Cool.
